Basque delegation visits solar energy training project for women in Zanzibar
A Basque delegation led by the Director of Development Cooperation of the Basque Government, Ainhoa Etxeandia, recently visited a solar energy training project for women on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania. The project, which is supported by the Basque Government through its international cooperation program, aims to train women in solar energy and promote gender equality in the energy sector.
During the visit, the delegation learned first-hand about the work being carried out in the project, which is being implemented by the local organization Nipe Fagio. In addition to receiving training in solar energy, the participating women are also learning about entrepreneurship and small business management. In this way, the project seeks not only to train the women in a technical skill, but also to empower them economically and strengthen their leadership skills.
The Basque delegation was able to visit one of the communities where the project is being carried out and talk to some of the participating women. During the visit, the importance of solar energy training in a region where electricity is scarce and expensive was highlighted. The importance of promoting gender equality in the energy sector, which has historically been dominated by men, was also emphasized.
The solar energy training project for women in Zanzibar is just one of many international cooperation projects that the Basque Government is supporting around the world. Through its cooperation program, the Basque Government works to promote sustainable development and social justice in developing countries and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
